SAVR

Design sprint project

Overview

As part of a 5 day design sprint, we were briefed on the app and given background on what the pain points were for users and personas to the target user audience.

SAVR is a recipe app that allows users to follow along and create a dish. SAVR allows users to favorite recipes and try dishes that may be new or familiar to them.

Defining the Problem

Finding a recipe is easy for users, however getting the execution correctly is another battle. SAVR wants to help users follow a recipe step by step to create a cohesive dish that they can enjoy themselves or with others.

Solution

Allow users to easily identify ingredients and procedure of assembling a recipe to create a meal.

Process

Empathize

As part of a design sprint, I was given access to a user interview and user polls about what users had difficulties with the app. Users indicated that finding recipes they wanted to cook were easy, however the process of following the recipe and knowing what steps to take were difficult. Users felt that time was wasted by not preparing certain parts of the recipes while other parts were being cooked or prepared. This left users struggling and stressed about the recipes coming out over cooked, or overall not being executed correctly. Overall through user polls and the interview, users wanted an easier process of assembling the recipe in the most efficient and proper way.

Define

User personas were supplied to us. Our target audience was for users who have picked out recipes and find frustrations while cooking the food. Whether it is getting the timing right or having items prepared and ready for the next steps.

Ideate

Through the design sprint process. I created a user map after doing a lightning demo and from the lightning demo I did some crazy - 8 sketching and storyboarded from there. Once I created the sketches of the storyboarding I moved onto prototyping.

Test

Once the prototyping was finished. I selected 5 users, and conducted usability testing. From the usability testing, there were some common themes that came up as user frustrations or recommendations. Users liked having a video where they can watch how to assemble the meal completely first. Users also mentioned that they would like the ability to see all the ingredients needed for each step, and have the ability to quickly go back to previous steps as well. Users also mentioned wanting the ability to swap out certain recipes for dietary restrictions.

Reflection

The design sprint process was enlightening and helped to bring ideas to fruition quickly. I liked that the process was short, but allowed the ability to gain insights into what users want. I think that I would have liked to have worked with a team in this instance to be able to bounce ideas and see things from different angles. I think that in the future, doing design sprint challenges will become easier and thinking up ideas and brainstorming will become more natural.
